Abstract
The objective of this paper is to explore the questions that are posed by the identification of quality in the performing arts and to introduce these criteria of quality into an econometric analysis of demand. At first, we examine theoretically how various changes in the randomness attaching to the quality of live arts performances affect the demand for such performances. Then, using data for a theatre company, different demands are estimated in order to consider the role of the perception of quality on attendance.
